Not a Sports Freak..

  • Aug. 28th, 2008 at 12:32 AM

..but a BIG fan XD h3h3.

Please, even if you're not a sports fan, don't let it stop you from reading this one ^^. Gonna try to make it interesting.

Being a guy, you can say it's natural to like sports, especially soccer, but I like many sports and they're diverse. First come soccer, then right after it is Formula 1 racing (wow too guy-like lol). After these two comes Tennis, and all different sports included in the Olympics.

My interest in Tennis came from my sister. I have only 1 sister, and she's the best sister I could've asked for. She likes sports as much as I do XD. Don't blame her ppl, she was raised with 3 brothers lol. I remember it was the early 90s, when tennis had Steffi Graff and Monica Seles. When it had Boris Becker. Then after these players stopped playing, I stopped watching tennis. Now with the maestro Roger Federer and the amazing Rafa Nadal, everybody should watch Tennis. It's just amazing. People say soccer is unpredictable! Wait till you see tennis. It's totally like anime @@. A player wins the first set, and half of the second set, then boom, he loses points, loses the 2nd set, the 3rd, and loses the game after total domination of the first half of it. Or sometimes it's 40-0, then he never wins any point, and loses the game. It's weird. Or a straight 5 points all aces from the serve. Prince of Tennis couldn't be just impossible after all lol.

I posted this entry mainly to talk a bit about the Olympics. I know I won't have another chance 'till 2012 when it's in London. I'm a huge olympic fan. Even the games I don't usually watch or like seem very interesting and fun during the olympics. It's just the most fun sport event ever, tied with the world cup. The most important games that I love to watch are of course Atheltics "The most of all games", gymnastics, weightlifting, and enjoy badminton, volleyball, and archery. Now, athletic is simply something else. It's so much fun that I don't mind watching it for 4 hours straight. I like watching everything, except the marathon. Gladly, I didn't miss watching Bolt, the Jamaican tornado, break 3 world records..live. I love watching pole vault, high jump, and javelin throw. Finally, gymnastics is the most fun of all olympics games. I attended the competition when it happened during the Asian Games in Doha in 2006. Three of them players I saw were in Beijing as well this year ^^ and won medals. I can't wait until the next olympic games ^^.

It's not easy to show a friend the beauty of Formula 1 racing. It helps alot if you're a cars enthusiast, but hey @@ my sister's not, but still is a fan of Formula 1 XD. I think I start watching Formula 1 in 2000. I can't remember exactly how it started, but I remember hearing the news of a new amazing driver named Mika Hekkinen. Always thought that Micheal Schumacher was the best. Didn't actually know much about the drivers. So I guess I wanted to check it out. Oh boy, was it not a hug fun! The thing about Formula 1, the most you watch, the most you get into it, learn about it, and get hooked up. It's not just fast cars lapping around a course. Well, the fast cars is a big part of its fun h3. There are strategies that decide the whole thing for each team. How much fuel to put? When to fuel? The tires and order of tire types to use. Delaying entering the pit for only 1 lap, can decide the result of the whole race. The starting of the race is always super exciting. I mean look at this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzPN2dwdVGc
Massa was starting from 3rd place, with the two McLaren cars starting in front of him. Look how he passed'em. Watching this live is amazing. Also witnessing a cool overtaking is always exciting even if it's against someone I cheer for. I don't think it's easy to get hooked into Formula 1. I'm sure it's not as easy as soccer and some other sports, but when you get to like it, it'll get addictive.. and you'll feel like dying when they take the 4+ months break between seasons.

Anybody's into volleyball? I don't recall being a fan of it when I was younger, but now getting more into it with time. I don't watch it on regular bases, but if there's a world cup or smth big like that, I enjoy watching the matches of the big teams like Brazil, Russia, and now U.S got into the 1st place in this game. When you watch these strong team's matches, you'll never settle with watching other lame teams. When Brazil play @@ it's like watching an action movie. The way they hit the ball and strike is not human like lol.

Finally, I'll try not to talk much about soccer ^^;. It was my favorite sport before I learned saying mama =p. I remember watching the world cup of 1990 when I was only 8, and I remember the final and the ending ceremony when Maradona was looking at the cup and crying his eyes out lol (Germany won). Of course I never miss the Gulf Cup. I know it's only 6 (now 8) poor teams going happy by beating each other, but we always feel attached to it no matter how much we say we'll not watch the next one lol. In the year 2000, I got into the Spanish League. It's maybe the best thing I've done sports-wise loool.. j/k. I became such a huge fan of Spanish league along with my younger brother that now all my family members watch it every weekend when it's aired lol. Except for my eldest brother, even mom watches it. Not only that, she's a fan of Real Madrid and gets frustrated and upset if they play poorly and lose ^^; hhh. My sister, younger brother, and mother are all Real Madrid fans. Father enjoys watching, but no particular club. As for me, I'm a Barcelona freak. You can imagine how it's like at home when they play against each other lol. Don't you dare speak to me if Barcelona play bad and lose in a shameful way. If it's an important match, I try my best to keep it cool, and sometimes I succeed lol. The result of the match can decide my mood for the whole night, and next day, if not till the next match comes ><. I'm deviating from the main point ^^; sorry. Anyway, soccer can never get boring. Period.

When Argentina's soccer team came to Doha few years ago, my brother and I went to the hotel where they were staying and took pics with most of the players ^^. Got the amazing Messi to sign my Barcelona's shirt, and brother got them signing his ball. Few months later, Maradona and Pele came to Qatar. We couldn't get a hold of Pele T^T but met Maradona and were with him when he took a tour around one of the sport clubs here. He signed the same shirt and took a pic with him ^^.

This entry means that there'll be no other one about sports in the near future xp. Sorry if it was boring to you readers ^^;.

'Till next time ^^ take care all.

Bye

Delivering Bad News

  • Aug. 24th, 2008 at 1:03 PM

I welcome myself to LJ ^^.

First I thought I'd post a silly first entry, but that wouldn't give a good first empression. I like funny in a silly way posts and stuff, but I'll be serious for once =p.

This post may come to some as dark and depressing. Maybe it's not the best way to start my journals here. As I said before, I'll turn on my serious mood for a change.

There is always a better way in doing anything. One of the important things a person should learn about is how one should deliver bad news to other people, be it family members, friends, or colleagues. There are some ways and steps to take, which will make the impact less on the person hearing the news.

When talking about bad news, first thing that comes to mind is death. The most common way ppl handle this is by saying "Did you hear what happened to (name)?" or saying: "Have you heard?", "Have you heard the news?", or "Did you hear about (name)?". This is simply wrong. Not only when you want to tell someone about another's death, but in any conversation in the world. At least to me and people I know, it freak us out. Even if the news has nothing to do with someone's death, but mentioning these lines will make the listener expect the worst of news, which might not be a bad news in the end! So, avoid using these lines, specially with a serious tone. I remember this happened to my father once. My uncle called him and said: "Did you know about (relative's name)?" Dad didn't know what'll be coming next. It wasn't a so bad news, but it did ruin father's mood, because of the way my uncle handled it.

Don't think that saying bad news straightforwardly or with a straight face is cool and manly. It's heartless. If someone does it you, don't let it go. If not in the same time, tell him about it later on, but never let it go. Using the phone to avoid direct confrontation is a bad idea too. When it comes to really bad news, it's way much better to say it face to face. The mobile phone has taken over our life. Alot of people use it to avoid direct contact while mentioning bad news, or avoiding embarrassment. When you want to tell a family member about another relative's death or really bad accident, wait until you're face to face with him/her and deliver the news in a proper way. Of course there are people you can't meet everyday, but I'm talking here about family members mostly. There are times when you need to use the mobile, so your friend or relative will now soon enough to attent the funeral prayer, and the funeral. When my aunt's husband (mom's cousin) passed away in London, my father, sister, brothers and I all knew when it first happened. My mother was out in the same morning, but we never contacted her on the phone. We waited until she got back home, and sis was with her. Then when they got near mom's room, she told her. Imagine how it'd have been if one of us just called and told her.

It's easier to lay it out when the person who passed away was already sick or very old. I mean some people see it coming sooner or later. Or if it happened because of an accident. Giving some kind of an introduction always helps. I don't have many good examples or points to follow on what is a good way to tell these news, but I do have one example that I believe is more than enough.

Last year, specifically on July, my grandmother passed away. Peace on her soul. I loved her so much. So very much. My uncle was out of the country at the time. Also while he was getting back from Vienna, his son got infected by a bacteria and get really sick, which forced them to stop by Dubai to treat him. He didn't know about my grandmother, whom health wasn't getting better with time. When we were at the solace, father called my uncle. He greeted him in a normal way, asking how they're doing, and how's his son is doing. Like any other usual conversation. Then he was like, the past few days you know how our mother wasn't feeling good, and her condition wasn't progressing much, and while you were away her health didn't get better, and this morning she got sick, so we had to take her to the hospital. There they couldn't do much, and she got worse, and God took her soul. God bless her soul. She was with us last night feeling fine spiritually, and as usual joking about one of maids. This morning she woke up and prayed alfajer. Then it happened.

I was amazed. The conversation was natural and went smoothly. It mayb not apply on every kind of bad news or situation, but it surely was educational.

One last thing. Never use sms! Never. Sometimes I read on the newspaper how there are some married couples who ask for divorce by SMS! Oh, and some guys actually accept it and reply by yet another SMS! Sorry, it might not be directly related to the main topic.

Hopefully, my upcoming entries will be light and cheerful ones ^^.

Oh, and welcome to my LJ page xp h3h3h3.

Laters.
